You see it in schools already. They have taken out the sugary snacks and replaced them with fruits and other healthy snacks, all the while promoting choice. True choice is including the healthy snacks along with the sugary snacks. Otherwise it's nothing more than a progressive movement.
  • How about a "fat tax?"

If one does not willingly try to be at a reasonable weight, then take something from a family's claiming independents on the tax preparation. There needs to be some serious incentives - news stories/ programs don't seem to get the message across- to lead a much healthier lifestyle. Growing up through the fifties, sixties ( and probably before) we, as kids, never stayed in the house. With only three channels on the tv, there wasn't much to do than to get outside. Try shoveling snow kiddies, and see what real work for youngsters is all about!
  • Parenting Campain

There should be a "How to be a good parent" campain. It's the parents who buy the X-box and buy the food that the kids eat while sitting on their buts playing games. Parents need to be parents and not try to be their kid's best friend. Also good parenting will lower drug use, lower school drop outs, etc..

Of the top stories on this website today, one is about obesity and another is about free breakfast at Dennys. Just goes to show, no one really cares about obesity when over-salted, calorie-heavy free food is in the picture. Personally, I'm growing rather tired of this belief that such a complex problem as childhood obesity can be solved with yet another "talking to" by one of the Obamas.

[Sarcasm] Why don't we just let socialized government dictate what kind of food we can eat, how much we should exercise daily, how and what kind of TV to watch, and make sports manadatory in school?....Oh, wait....aren't we heading that way already?
