Former major league slugger Albert Belle was sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years supervised probation Thursday in a case where he admitted stalking.

The former Major League Baseball star was sentenced by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge James Keppel to 90 days in the county jail and five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to stalking a Scottsdale woman.

Police originally accused Belle of attaching a GPS tracking device to Christina Williams' car. He was arrested in June when he allegedly called the woman.

Belle stopped short of calling Williams a former girlfriend in a statement he made in court.

"I made the mistake of having business arrangements with this woman," he said. "I regret that the business arrangement resulted in my spending 101 days in the Fourth Avenue Jail."

Belle's attorney, Joe Saienni, claims Williams was not Belle's ex-girlfriend.

"In the evidentiary hearing, it came out the Ms. Williams was a licensed escort at one time and that was the nature of this relationship," he said.

Belle then offered an apology.

"I truly apologize to Ms. Williams for my wrongful actions and I ask for her forgiveness," he said.

Belle told the judge that he is thankful for his wife.

"I have learned that my beautiful and wonderful wife truly loves me unconditionally as she has stuck by my side," he said. "I hope she continues to forgive me over time and our marriage will continue to grow stronger."

Belle is being credited with 29-days served and is scheduled for release from jail in October.

Superior Court Judge James Keppel warned Belle that if he contacts the victim again he will send him to prison.
