One person was killed and four others injured in a shooting at a house party in south Phoenix.

Police said an unspecified number of people were standing outside a home near 16th Street and Southern Avenue when a man approached and started shooting.

Five people were shot, including 37-year-old Armando Sagarnaga, who died at the scene. Police said the others did not have life-threatening injuries.

Police said there were several family members, including children, at the house when the shooting occurred.

Officers arrived quickly and pulled over a brown pickup that was leaving the scene. Witnesses identified the driver, 31-year-old Juan Cortez, as the gunman.

Police said they found a gun clip on Cortez but didn't find a gun. He was arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting.
