Ash: Free agent frenzy
by Mark Asher/Sports 620 KTAR (January 14th, 2011 @ 9:22am)
OK we are just a few hours away from the much anticipated 2010 NBA free agency frenzy, and to be honest it can't get here quick enough. I am so sick of people telling us where every player is going, yet every report seems to be different. If these players wanted their egos stroked then they got what they wanted. It has gotten so confusing that I have decided to play a little game. How many free agents can Ash get right? I have listed the top 10 free agents in this class. I will guess where they will end up and at the end I probably won't be a Steve Nash type from the free throw line (90%), but I hope not to be the Shaq/Amundson type (under 50%). Here it goes:
LeBron James - NY Knicks.... I just have this feeling that the 3 stars in Miami isn't going to happen, so to me the best spot for the King is in Queens - ok so maybe not exactly in Queens, but you get the idea. The city will belong to James as some of the city's stars, like Derek Jeter, are getting a bit older. He will get some help too. Read on!
Chris Bosh - NY Knicks... It has always been reported that these two were going together in free agency and I think it will happen. Bosh might have to be had in a sign and trade though.
Dwayne Wade - Miami Heat.....After the megastars didn't align in South Beach with D-Wade as the ring leader, Wade decides to stay in Miami and will welcome some help. Does this mean Bosh and LeBron aren't in his Five anymore?
Amare Stoudemire - Miami Heat.... After a last minute attempt by the Phoenix Suns fails I think Amare will move on to South Beach to be Wade's Robin. I have no idea how the Suns will rebound but something tells me we aren't going to like it much.
Dirk Nowitzki - Dallas Mavericks.... Dirk opted out and might be interested by other teams advances, but in the long run this is his last contract and Cuban can give him 4 years and $96 million. That's more than anyone else can offer and he will take it.
Joe Johnson - Chicago Bulls....OK I am kind of stuck on this one. I think Joe wants the money and Atlanta offers him more than anyone else, so I am leaning towards saying he stays, but that isn't fun! So I will say he goes to Chicago.
Carlos Boozer - Chicago Bulls... They have so much money to spend and have a nice young nucleus so adding a solid power forward makes sense.
Paul Pierce - Boston Celtics...This is Pierce's last chance to cash in on 3 more max years and he will do so in Boston and give it one more shot with Doc and KG.
David Lee - New Jersey Nets....OK this isn't exactly the splash that the new "Russianaire" wants to make, but it is a start. I can see Lee and Jay-Z hanging out after games! OK let's go ahead and mark this one down as a miss right now.
Ray Allen - NY Knicks....I don't think Jesus Shuttlesworth has a ton of big games left but he is still a big name in this free agency game. I have this feeling he will end up wherever LeBron goes. He would be a great 3 point weapon next to LeBron and would help space the floor. Another option would be for Allen to take the money from a team that doesn't get what they want in free agency, i.e. Clippers, Nets, etc...
So after further review I am pretty sure I am either going to go 8-10 or 2-10, and that is the beauty of free agency. May the best team win (or at least pay the most!)
